Upcoming 2025 Unison General Secretary Election

If you have seen some communications regarding the upcoming Unison General Secretary elections we will try and explain why it is so important to cast your vote and get the right person to lead our Union and to represent the values of members.  The General Secretary is the most senior role in the union. They represent UNISON and its members when talking to the media, other unions, employers and to Parliament. 

Why are we have an election now?  According to UNISON’s rulebook and trade union legislation, UNISON has to elect its General Secretary every five years.

The ballot opens on 28 October 2025 and runs until 25 November 2025. The results will be announced on 17 December 2025.

Who are the candidates in this election?

Candidate applications are welcomed from members who have held full membership or employment of/at UNISON since 28 October 2020. If you wish to run as a candidate, please fill out the candidate form found online here: www.cesvotes.com/UNISONGS25.  Candidate applications must be received by 5pm on 26 September 2025 and a current list of prospective candidates can be found here.

In any election Staffordshire Police Unison will never tell you who to vote for.  As a Branch we may have made a collective decision to support one candidate however when you vote, as a member, that is your decision, and yours alone.
